Frankie Edgar was the first UFC fighters to congratulate Conor McGregor after his UFC featherweight title win over Chad Mendes.

The Answer approached the octagon and gave the Dubliner his due before tapping him up for a title defence joust.

Jose Aldo has recovered from his June rib fracture and is back to unifying the featherweight title so, for now, Edgar must wait.

Ahead of his TUF Finalé main event fight with Chad Mendes, on December 11, Edgar spoke with MMA Noise about the UFC 194 headliner between McGregor and Aldo. The New Jersey native is somewhat surprised that McGregor is the favourite. He commented:

“I’m going to go with Aldo, he’s been on top for so long.

“I’m surprised that he’s the underdog, I think that’s kind of ridiculous, the guy hasn’t lost in a really long time.

Anything can happen, McGregor has definitely been holding his own in there and doing it in pretty good fashion. But, I think Aldo is going to take it.”

Edgar added, “You just can’t talk about it if you don’t back it up because you will be forgotten about and people won’t want to hear what you’re saying. McGregor has been backing it up.

“I think he’s had some good match-ups for himself and some favorable situations where Chad’s coming in on short notice, but, this is going to be the biggest test for him.”
