Paul Scholes shares his thoughts on ‘out of order’ David De Gea

He's very talkative these days

For a man that had a reputation of keeping himself to himself throughout his playing career, Paul Scholes the pundit certainly has no problems sharing his opinions.

The latest to wade into the never-ending David De Gea debate, Scholes is less than impressed by reports that the goalkeeper has lost his focus at the club amid interest from Real Madrid.

“How can you lose focus?” Scholes said, while covering United’s Champions League qualifier for BT Sports. “That’s the thing for me. He is getting paid by this club, it is a brilliant club.

“They paid a lot of money on a young keeper to give him this chance. If the manager is right and says he has lost focus then yeah, I think he is out of order.

“He should be in that team playing. If it wasn’t for him last year, they probably wouldn’t be in this position tonight so they have to thank him for that.”

Rio Ferdinand, also in the BT studio, warned that if De Gea were allowed to leave now, it would set a precedent for more players to force their way out of the club.

“I think it sets the tone,” said Ferdinand. “I think it tells players you can get out of this club easily. No you can’t. If we want you stay and you are one of our better players then you will stay here and play under our conditions. That sets the tone.”

With days remaining until the transfer day deadline, it’s looking increasingly likely that David de Gea will stay put at United. But don’t rule out a bit of late drama.
