Well, perhaps until the final a month later when Manchester United sucker-punched Bayern Munich in injury time.
It looked like United weren’t going to make it to the Nou Camp after Filippo Inzaghi gave Juventus a 2-0 lead in the semi-final second leg with just 11 minutes on the clock.
Roy Keane had other ideas though, scoring a fine header from a corner before ruling himself out of the final with a booking for a late tackle on Zinedine Zidane.
But that didn’t stop him.
As Sir Alex Ferguson later wrote in his autobiography, the captain “covered every blade of grass” to drive United to the final.
‘It was the most emphatic display of selflessness I have seen on a football field,’ said Ferguson. ‘Pounding over every blade of grass, competing if he would rather die of exhaustion than lose, he inspired all around him. I felt such an honour to be associated with such a player.’
