Ian Wright was once caught by Arsene Wenger doing something he really shouldn’t have been doing

Aside from being a club legend, Ian Wright also had a bit of a reputation in his Arsenal days for being the changing room joker.

And thanks to this anecdote from one of his former teammate, we can all see how Wrighty gained such a status.

Stephen Hughes, a member of Arsenal’s 1998 Double winning side, describes the time that the striker was caught by Arsene Wenger *roller skating* through Highbury’s Marble Halls.

10 JAN 1996: Ian Wright of Arsenal listens to the cheers of the supporters after he scored in the Coca Cola Cup quarter final match against Newcastle at Highbury.

Quoted in the Mirror, Hughes recalls how his former manager failed to see the humorous side to the incident.

“I remember Wrighty going: ‘Come on, Hughesy, pull me!’ Just as he got there, the gaffer’s head popped round the door and saw me pulling him down on rollerskates.”

We’d imagine that Wrighty’s roller skates didn’t make too many more appearances at Highbury after this incident.
