David Haye’s next opponent has been confirmed

Former world heavyweight champion David Haye will continue his boxing comeback with a bout against undefeated Switzerland-based Arnold Gjergjaj.

Kosovo-born Gjergjaj, nicknamed ‘The Cobra’, has 21 knockouts in a 29-0-0 career to date, and the May 21 bout at the O2 Arena will be his first fight on British soil.

“Fighting a big heavyweight like ‘The Cobra’ has really got my juices flowing, taking a unbeaten fighters ‘0’ from him always makes the victory that much sweeter,” said Haye, who told spectators to “Expect another explosive knock out!”

Haye’s last victory came by first-round knockout against Australian challenger Mark De Mori in January, his first fight after a three-and-a-half year exile from the sport.

That victory saw him return to the top 10 in the world heavyweight rankings, but it seems he will have to wait until 2017 at the earliest for a title shot.

The undercard will feature an English middleweight title bout between Joe Mullender and Lee Markham, as well as the boxing debut of Qatari royal Sheikh Fahad Bin Khalid Al Thani.

Haye v Gjergjaj will take place on May 21 at the O2 Arena in London.
