We could finally get an answer to the question on everyone’s lips: which is better – the Premier League or MLS?
The winners of England and America’s major trophies could be poised to come together for a summer tournament that will decide once and for all whether the likes of Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez are a match for players like Perry Kitchen and Jack McBean.
A proposed four-team Anglo-American Cup would see the winners of the Premier League, FA Cup, MLS Cup and US Open Cup square off for the honour of being crowned transatlantic champions.
Speaking at the Soccerex conference, MLS Commissioner Don Garber said that while in-depth discussions over the finer details were yet to be carried out, talk of an annual or four-yearly competition in New York were very much on the table.
“We have been talking to the Premier League about doing some sort of official competition – as opposed to just having clubs come over to the country on a random basis – playing in a tournament that takes place every summer,” he explained.
“I would love to find a way that we could play our cup champion and our league champion against an FA Cup and league champion in a tournament and play it in New York City every year.”
