Never Mind the Buzzcocks is no more. Here’s some of our favourite bits…

Buzzing off...

Tom Victor

All good things must come to an end, but some reach that point sooner than others…

The BBC have announced that they will not renew Never Mind the Buzzcocks, one of the network’s longest-running shows, after 28 series.

Whilst the time may have been right, with ratings falling and the Rhod Gilbert-era not having quite the spark seen under previous hosts Mark Lamarr and Simon Amstell, we still have some great memories of the programme. Here are some of our favourites:

Martin Freeman and Matt Horne’s sigh-off

Examining the idea that all British comic actors of a certain generation are interchangeable, Freeman and Horne countered each other with a level of depth and subtlety that you can only really comprehend if you have had years worth of acting training. Or not…

Donny Tourette steals the show

We would often see a guest booked for the show without knowing quite what to expect. The typical response would be to laugh it off or sheepishly keep a low profile, but that would have been too easy for the Towers of London frontman.

Never before have we seen one man put in so much effort for such little payoff, but credit to Tourette – he stuck it out until the end, only going missing very briefly. There’s no single specific highlight, but thankfully someone has collated his best bits.

Oh, and for those of you who were wondering, Towers of London are currently working on their third album, according to Wikipedia. Yeah, we were surprised too…

Preston walks out

It says a lot about a musician’s career when for many he is better known for a panel show appearance than for anything he recorded, but that’s what can happen when you walk off set mid-recording.

The Ordinary Boys singer and Big Brother contestant fell out with host Simon Amstell early on in proceedings, and the final straw came when Amstell read from the autobiography of Preston’s then-wife and fellow reality show contestant Chantelle Houghton.

We don’t want to spoil any more of it for those of you who haven’t seen it…
