Children's TV legend Gudrun Ure, who was best known for her role as Super Gran in the hit series, has died aged 98.
She starred in the beloved ITV children's show in the 1980s, in which she played a granny who gained superpowers after being struck by a magic ray.
Her passing was confirmed by her niece Kate McNeill. She remembered her as a "really kind" person who was happy to be recognised for her most famous role, the BBC reports.
She added that when she last saw her aunt in December, the actress had enjoyed hearing that there were plans to reboot the TV show as a new film, and recalled the likes of George Best appearing on the programme.
Along with her role as Super Gran, which she played from 1985 to 197, Ure also appeared in shows inclduing Casualty and Midsomer Murders throughout her career, which began in 1951.
Fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the TV star, with one writing on X: “So sad to hear that actress Gudrun Ure has died today at the age of 98. Born in Milton in Campsie, she was a seasoned actress of stage and screen. She was much-loved as Super Gran, the main character of the 1980s TV show.”

A third commented: “Ah no! Loved Supergran. Thanks for the memories Gudrun," whilst a fourth added: “Supergran was a great kids show and the theme song was an absolute banger. It is sad news #RIPGudrunUre.”
And someone else said: “Broken at this. A massive, massive part of my youth. When things were that bit more innocent. Sleep tight supergran.”
Ure was born on 12 March 1926 in Milton of Campsie, near Stirling, to Allan and Lily Ure.
She was the oldest of three children, and had outlived her two brothers.
