Matthew Perry refused to film Friends scene where Chandler cheats on Monica

He simply refused

Fans of Friends probably think they know everything about the show at this point. From celeb cameos to off stage antics, those invested in the sitcom usually have a level of knowledge beyond the most avid fans.

But even superfans may not know that during a particularly popular storyline in Las Vegas (where Ross marries Rachel in the chapel), Chandler was supposed to cheat on his then-girlfriend Monica.

Apparently, after getting into a fight with Monica, Chandler was supposed to cheat on his beloved, high-maintenance girlfriend.

This is according to actor Lisa Cash, who appeared on Friends as a flight attendant in 1999.

While her role was as a flight attendant, she was originally supposed to play a member of staff at the Las Vegas hotel where Monica and Chandler were staying.

In an interview with TMZ, Cash said: “The scene was Monica and Chandler were arguing in Vegas about Monica having lunch with Richard.

“Initially in our script, Chandler goes up to the hotel room, orders room service and I bring it up as a hotel worker.

“We end up talking and laughing and connecting and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.”

She says the scenes got as far as the rehearsal stage, but the scene was pulled the day before it was supposed to be filmed in front of an audience.

Cash said: “I was told that [Perry] had gone to the writers and said the audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica, which he was probably right.”

She goes on to sing Perry’s praises, saying it was ‘neat’ to work with him considering how new she was to the industry. She claims Perry was welcoming and put her at ease in the scene as a junior actor.

Perry’s Friends co-stars gathered over the weekend to mourn the loss of their colleague and friend in an intimate ceremony.

TMZ reported that the funeral ceremony was an intimate event with around 20 or so people in attendance.

Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, and David Schwimmer were all present at the event.

Matt LeBlanc was also there alongside Matthew’s father, John Bennett Perry, and stepfather, Keith Morrison.

The final farewell comes after the 54-year-old was found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at his Pacific Palisades home.
