European Cup winner’s wife taped over his only recording of the final

Poor guy...

It’s hard to picture it now, but Nottingham Forest used to be the champions of Europe.

It wasn’t just a one-off thing either like Wigan winning the FA Cup while getting relegated, they actually won back-to-back titles in the 1978/79 and 1979/80 seasons.

Even back then, that was a big deal, and you’d imagine the players would like to be able to relive the highlight of their career over and over.

Of course, in those pre-internet days you couldn’t just go on YouTube and stick the video on repeat. Instead you had to rely on someone to record the game when it was playing live for you. And if that video got damaged, that was that.

Unfortunately for former Forest defender Colin Barrett, his wife accidentally recorded over the 1979 European Cup final with the infamous episode of Dallas where JR was shot.

Despite scoring a goal in the first round tie against Liverpool Barrett did not actually play in the final due to injury. Nor did he get to play in 1980 either.

He probably still wanted that recording though.
