Decisions, decisions…

Wayne Rooney has allegedly been offered two top roles ahead of next season.

Rooney has been out of work since being sacked by Birmingham City in December however he recently featured on both TNT and Sky Sports – including the latter as a pundit for their coverage of the Merseyside derby.

According to sources at The Sun, Rooney’s performances on the camera have impressed TV bosses and both Sky and TNT have reportedly offered him a role to become a regular pundit.

The former Manchester United striker has already accepted an offer to become a permanent member of The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast from next season and could even appear for the BBC and ITV in their coverage of Euro 2024.

Rooney seen as ‘natural replacement’

Having impressed in his role as a pundit, Sky believe that the England legend compliments Jamie Carragher well and could be considered as a natural replacement for Gary Neville when he is on co-commentary duty.

One source said: “Sky is particularly keen to sign him because they think he presents well with Jamie Carragher, and is regarded as a natural replacement for when Gary Neville is commentating.”

However, even though Rooney is said to be flattered by the offers, he still has his eye on a return to management.

“As much as Wayne loves working in the studio, he is desperate for a return to the dugout,” the source continued.

“Despite everything that’s happened at Birmingham, he still believes he has a lot to offer, and harbours ambitions to one day manage in the Premier League. It means he is in a bit of a tug-of-war over what to do.”

Rooney eager to return to management

Despite his failures at Birmingham, Rooney is still keen to pursue his managerial dreams.

The 38-year-old did well with limited resources during a difficult period of time for Derby County before a brief spell at D.C United.
