‘Who greenlit this?’
I’m A Celebrity fans have lashed out at a birthday card design that they believe mocks Nella Rose.
The 26-year-old, who was forced to briefly leave the camp earlier this week, has divided opinion since coming into the jungle two weeks ago.
Nella’s first taste of controversy was when she went absolutely nuts at Fred Sirieix after he said he “could be her dad” prompting her to tell him to “leave me alone”, calling him a “weirdo”, and saying she was offended.
Nella explained to the Bush Telegraph: “Last night after dinner Fred made a comment about him basically how he could be my dad.
“I took offence to that because one of the first conversations we had together was me opening up about the fact that my dad’s passed away.”
Now, Moonpig have released a card which some have claimed is mocking Nella Rose and her kick off at Fred.
The card, which has a drawing that appears to be Nella, features the line: “I’m really offended that it’s your birthday.”
The description of the card on Moonpig only strengthens the argument that it is intended to be Nella, as it reads that the card features an “illustration of a YouTuber”.
Taking to X, many people were disappointed in the card, with one writing: “This is so disappointing from Moonpig. You can think Nella overreacted/misunderstood Fred but absolutely no need to mock how she processes grief for a cheap laugh.”
Another wrote: “This is actually bullying now. Moonpig profiting off Nella’s grief, I’d due your ass. ITV step in please, what happened to BeKind. MoonpigUK you should be ashamed.”
A third commented: “This is SO weird and tasteless…I wouldn’t be surprised if the moonpig workers who made this were the same people bullying Nella on the internet.”
Others however are arguing in the cards favour.
One wrote: “Fame is not for the faint of heart. Yes moonpig should do the card. It works in Nella’s favour & shows how iconic she will become. It actually lightens the moment for public to be kinder to her. US talent take moments & make merch. It’s only up from here guys.”
And another said: “I’ve never participated in the Nella pile-on but I think people are being a bit precious. Being offended at Moonpig kinda proves the point they are trying to make with the joke. People claiming to call them out and threatening a boycott are providing them with free publicity.”
