Premier League clubs hit back at “false” doping allegations

Tom Victor

Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City have all issued strongly-worded statements following allegations of doping levelled against all three clubs.

London-based doctor Mark Bonar claimed to have supplied performance-enhancing drugs to Premier League footballers, with the allegations coming to light in the Sunday Times.

But the three clubs at the centre of the storm have been quick to issue firm denials of Dr Bonar’s claims, with various publications carrying details of the respective responses.

Arsenal have issued a statement in which the club says it is “extremely disappointed by the publication of these false claims which are without foundation.”

Chelsea, meanwhile, claim to have “never used the services of Dr Bonar and [have] no knowledge or record of any of our players having been treated by him or using his services.”

Finally, Leicester City’s response says: “We are extremely disappointed that The Sunday Times has published unsubstantiated allegations referring to players from clubs including Leicester City when, on its own admission, it has insufficient evidence to support the claims.”
