Your favourite pair of headphones may be useless with the next iPhone

Cian Murray

The iPhone 7 will come without a headphone jack, according to reports.

Japanese Apple blog Mac Otakara claims: “Apple plans to remove the 3.5mm headphone port from the upcoming iPhone 7, helping to achieve a ‘more than 1mm’ reduction in thickness compared to the iPhone 6S.”

Apple have been looking at alternatives to the 3.5mm port for some time and if these plans go ahead, the iPhone 7 will be the thinnest iPhone yet.

All is not lost though, as the new model will reportedly come with EarPods which use the Lightning connector. This is the same jack iPhone 6S users use to charge their phone.

It might be time to change the Christmas list. Those amazing headphones you were hoping for might be absolutely useless if you plan on buying the next iPhone.
