Boris Johnson has just been given one of the biggest jobs in government

He's back

Boris Johnson is back.

It looks as though his political career was dead in the water. After campaigning successfully for Brexit and then deciding not to run for Conservative Party leader, many insisted there was no way back for the former Mayor of London.

But in a gob-smacking appointment to her first Cabinet, new Prime Minister Theresa May has appointed Johnson as Foreign Secretary. That’s right – bumbling Boris will be the face of the United Kingdom in negotiations with the rest of the world.

Some have suggested that it is a strategic move by May – who campaigned to remain in the European Union – to appoint a renowned Brexiteer to such a prestigious office, so as to appease the more right-wing element of the Tory Party.

Others are slightly bewildered at a decision that places Johnson in a very responsible and diplomatically sensitive role when he has shown himself to be somewhat inconsistent and liable to high-profile gaffs.
