Peter Jackson is back, everyone!

A new Lord of the Rings film is set to be released in 2026, with director of the original trilogy Peter Jackson as producer and Gollum actor Andy Serkis set to direct the project.

The current working title for the project is The Hunt for Gollum and original co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will also reunite for the film.

Variety reports that the trio “will be involved every step of the way” in the Warner Bros-backed project.

Lord of the Rings is one of the most successful and revered franchises in history and presents a significant opportunity for theatrical business,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said.

It is currently in the early stages of development, but Zaslav explained that it will “explore storylines yet to be told.”

In a statement, Serkis said, “Yesssss, Precious. The time has come once more to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle Earth Peter, Fran and Philippa.”

Last week, we told you that four of the original cast members reunited in a restaurant in Liverpool, and they shared a snap of their star-studded catch up.

Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd surprised the owner of the popular Belzan Bistro in the Sefton Park area of the city when they dropped in and asked for a table.

The foursome were in the city to appear at the Comic Con event at the Exhibition Centre in the city.
