The doctor later said to viewers: "I just cut it off at the snare and it's gone.
"You are interrupting the natural history of a disease... a process that could have ended up developing into cancer and causing all sort of problems.
"This saves lives pure and simple."
We then also see in the video McElhenney going in for the procedure and being told after that doctors found three small polyps in his colon.
"They were not a big deal but certainly a good thing that we found them early and removed them," his doctor said.
