Chris Evans would ‘love’ to reprise his role as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch

We’ll give you a hint… ‘Flame on!’

Chris Evans has confessed that he would love to return to the MCU at some point in the near future – the only catch is it wouldn’t be to play Captain America again.

Many of you will remember that Evans actually appeared in two Marvel films prior to his debut as Cap in The First Avenger – because before we had Kevin Feige and a masterplan of franchise phases, we simply had standalone Marvel films like the original Spider-Man and X-Men series, Hulk and… the Fantastic Four films.

That’s right, the then 23-year-old actor first appeared in the MCU as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch – and according to a recent interview with Variety, he’d be more than interested in reprising the role some 15 years after his last portrayal in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

“God, wouldn’t that be great?… No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old”, quipped Evans, caveating that while he really “love[s] that character”, his understanding is that Marvel is already well underway with their much-talked-about Fantastic Four reboot.

He went on to add: “Look, I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap, you know what I mean?” He confessed that playing Captain America was very “precious” to him and would be wary of returning as him and potentially “disrupt[ing] what a beautiful experience that was”.

How would the Fantastic 4 MCU reboot work?

*Spoiler territory*

On the other hand, Evans, now 41, feels like Johnny Storm “didn’t really get his day”, as both of those F4 movies were made before the MCU had properly been launched (2008). He concluded by simply saying, “I loved that role and, you know, who knows?”

It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen actors who have played Marvel superheroes return to the fold in spectacular fashion; maybe we get some kind of No Way Home type crossover? Who knows? Anything goes now the multiverse concept is in full swing.

Moreover, given a number of other significant variant superheroes and important characters from alternate realities popping up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there is all the more reason to believe a previous version of Johnny Storm could appear in future Marvel films, even with the Fantastic Four remade and recast.

All we know is, if Evans wants to play Human Torch again then we are absolutely down for it.
