Watch Paul Scholes’ brilliant understatement of Juve defender’s heart surgery (Video)

No nonsense...

Paul Scholes, never change.

The Man United legend has gone from a silent assassin in his playing days to headline-grabbing critic in his football punditry. His flat Manc vowels bely a lethal tongue that doesn’t tow the party line.

There’s something about his dour delivery that is wonderfully deadpan. He has seen and done it all in his glittering football career and isn’t prone to hyperbole. Even when football is a matter of life and death.

Stephan Lichtsteiner scored for Juventus against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday night, just weeks after heart surgery to remedy an atrial flutter.

It was something of a fairytale comeback to score in his first game back in the Champions League, and Gary Lineker was keen to highlight the point…

“Stephan Lichtsteiner, who scored the first-half equaliser, had heart surgery last month after he suffered breathing difficulties in a league match versus Frosinone, caused by a benign cardiac arrhythmia. Marvellous story – his first game back! And to score too!”

Paul Scholes responded in the understated that only Paul Scholes could…

“Well…you don’t want to see people poorly, do ya…what a pass from Pogba too.”
