24 to return with prequel show that’s all about Jack Bauer’s origins

Paul Moore

Jack’s back.

Start the clock because Jack Bauer’s day is about to get shit…again.

After foiling Victor Drazen’s plan, stopping a nuclear bomb, preventing a deadly plague from spreading through L.A, saving the president on countless occasions, stopping WW3 from happening, and killing more henchmen than Bond and Bourne combined, we thought that he’d get a chance to rest.

Well, not quite, The Hollywood Reporter have stated that that the next instalment in the 24 franchise will be a prequel series that tells the origin story of how Jack Bauer became the man that we all know and love.

Fans of the show will be pleased to know that the original series creators, Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran, are also going to be developing the show.

This being said, we’d be amazed if Kiefer Sutherland returns to the role that he famously played. After all, a prequel show would require a younger actor to play the character.

The report also states that the show could be an ongoing series- rather than the recent standalone entries in the franchise, 24: Legacy and 24: Live Another Day – and that they’re planning to keep 24‘s real-time setting and iconic ticking clock.

In terms of recent 24 shows, it’s fair to say that they haven’t matched the standards of the espionage, action and intrigue that developed in CTU over the course of eight seasons but if anyone can revive the franchise, it’s Jack.
