"My dad's blocked in and it's an emergency - could you read this out?"
Being a stadium announcer, you'd imagine this sort of thing happens every now and again.
Be it a bogus name (a la Bart Simpson prank calling Moe's Tavern) or, as in this instance, a made up number plate, sometimes people will deliberately try and get you to read things out over the PA system with the sole intention of making you look a bit of a dick.
On Tuesday night, three kids managed to do precisely that to the poor stadium announcer during AFC Fylde's game against Ramsbottom United.
Their plan was a simple one but brilliantly executed.
One of them informed the stadium announcer that their dad was blocked in by a white Nissan Micra on one the car parks outside and needed to leave in an emergency. On the back of a match ticket, they wrote down the number plate of the completely nonexistent Micra: NE14 ABJ.
Geddit? Read it again. You will.
Unfortunately, it was only after the announcer had read it aloud that they realised they had been superbly duped.
They did appear to see the funny side, however, sharing the following tweet on AFC Fylde's official Twitter account.

Look at their faces. Just look at their faces. Heroes, all three of them. Mainly the one on the right, who we reckon definitely instigated the whole thing, but yeah, the other two as well.
