Warning: This article contains reference to abuse and domestic violence

Mason Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill, following allegations of domestic violence.

The professional footballer has played for Manchester United’s first team since 2018, but is currently suspended from all training and matches.

A man in his 20s has been released on bail, after been arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes.

Here is everything we know so far.

Who is Mason Greenwood?

Mason Greenwood is a 20-year-old professional footballer from Bradford. He currently plays for Manchester United and the England team. He lives in Bowden, Cheshire.

What has Greenwood been accused of?

On Sunday, a woman posted a series of photos, video and audio recordings on social media reporting incidents of physical violence.

The images showed bruises on a body, as well as blood. The audio file detailed a graphic scene and a conversation between a man and a woman.

These have all since been deleted.

What has happened since?

On Sunday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed they had arrested a man in his 20s in connection with allegations of physical violence that surfaced on social media earlier that day.

He was detained in custody after police became aware of the online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

The man was initially arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, GMP confirmed. Detectives were then granted more time to question him after magistrates authorised an extension.

Following police enquires, he was further arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of “sexual assault and threats to kill”.

On Wednesday, GMP confirmed a man was released on bail “pending further investigation.”

What has happened to Greenwood’s partnerships?

An initial statement from Manchester United initially said that, while the club does not “condone violence of any kind”, it would wait until the “facts had been established”.

But the club have later confirmed Greenwood “will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

The latest statement from Man United reiterated the club’s “strong condemnation of violence of any kind”.

“As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice,” the club’s statement added.

A statement from Nike – Greenwood being one of their numerous sponsored athletes – told The Athletic: “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

On Monday, the brand suspended its relationship with Greenwood.

Has Greenwood been removed from FIFA?

Greenwood has also been removed from the Manchester United squad in the latest update of FIFA 22.

The update, which was released on Playstation, Xbox and PC platforms on Tuesday, no longer features Greenwood on the game’s offline modes. He also doesn’t appear in the United squad list on the game.

But Greenwood is still available to use on the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode, and can still be traded on the game mode’s transfer market.
