He’s about as Republican as they get

Elon Musk has revealed who will likely get his vote in the 2024 US presidential election, and as expected, it’s not a Democrat.

The Tesla CEO took to Twitter once more, this time to talk politics and not single-handedly crash the cryptocurrency market. In a back and forth conversation with the Twitter account Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, which literally just followers Tesla owners, Musk revealed that he voted for Mayra Flores for Texas’ 34th congressional district.

This was his first vote for a Republican candidate.

“I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican,” he wrote. “Massive red wave in 2022.”

“I assume republican for president 2?” the Tesla account replied, to which Musk said, “tbd.”

Musk was then pressed for who he was “leaning” towards, to which he confirmed “DeSantis.”

Musk is referring to Republican state senator Ron DeSantis, who has not formally announced his intention to run yet. However, it’s widely reported that DeSantis is a solid contender.

DeSantis could come to butt heads with formal ally Donald Trump, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

The 43-year-old Conservative has recently hit the headlines over his continued persecution of marginalised communities.

In one controversial law, dubbed the Don’t Say Gay bill, teachers were banned from discussing LGBTQ+ topics. In another, he banned young trans kids from accessing ender-affirming healthcare.

In April, the governor signed new guidelines for the Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees (WOKE) act, which looks to limit discussions around what DeSantis dubbs as “pernicious” critical race theory.
