What Weatherfield might look like after the end of the world

One of the most recognisable backdrops on TV, the old Coronation Street set, looks very different in new footage.

The show was filmed at the old Granada Studios on Quay Street in Manchester until 2014, when the set was abandoned and production moved to Media City in Salford, another part of the city.

The historic Quay Street site is currently being demolished but for now many of the Corrie buildings there are still standing – just.

Four years after filming moved away, the cobbles look eerily post-apocalyptic.

Outside, weeds and rubbish litter the streets while many buildings, including the old Rovers Return, have had parts of the exterior ripped out.

The inside of the buildings look as though the cast and crew held a child’s birthday party there before leaving – there are sweet and ice-cream wrappers all over the floor.

The explorers who filmed the video found clothes rails in the costume department with labels for characters including Kirk and Roy.

They also visited some classic Corrie haunts including the cab kiosk and the local police station.

We know it’s just a TV set but still, we wouldn’t want to find ourselves alone in the old Weatherfield late at night.
