Man who filmed all his farts for six months is fired from his job

“Paul Flart” has gone viral

Every man needs a hobby.

Some fish. Some golf. Some leave angry comments on the Guardian website.

Doug (he didn’t want to give his last name, in an interview with Vice), does something a bit more unusual. The security guard, who calls himself Paul Flart (after the Kevin James comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop), records all his farts on his Instagram. Every single is just a video of a close up of his face, while he lets one go.

Obviously, because this is the internet in 2018, he went viral. He has 30,000 followers on Instagram, and a compilation of his best bottom burps has been viewed 374,000 times on Reddit.

He works in a hospital and told Vice that the acoustics of the building really helped him record the perfect fart.  “The lobby has really great acoustics, and naturally, we all fart. One day I ripped a rather nice one and got really good sound from it, so the next time it happened I recorded it and sent it to my group chat.”

It just spiraled from there. And what does he think the secret of his fame is? “It transcends all languages. There’s no translation necessary, it’s just funny.”

Well, it seems his employers do not find it funny at all. He was recently let go from his job, due directly to the videos.

He live-streamed himself being fired, where his boss, off-screen, cites the fact that Doug repeatedly recorded himself in his uniform and on client property, as the reason for his dismissal. His boss also says that there is a lot of “pissed off” people at his work.

Doug now says he is going to try and turn his internet fame – and farts – into something more. “My thought process is just run with this and see where this goes,” he says. Celebrity Big Brother must surely beckon.
