Man recreates photo of himself with childhood cat just before putting him to sleep

He bid farewell to his beloved feline companion

A man recreated a 20-year-old photo of him and his pet cat before the animal was put to sleep.

The man, who goes by the name of ‘TrevorisTheGOAT’ on Reddit, had the cat as a pet since his childhood.

However, after two decades the time had sadly come for him to say goodbye to his feline companion, who was called Gandalf.

So, before Gandalf was put to sleep, the man decided to recreate a picture of the pair of them from when he was a kid.

Sharing the picture on Reddit, he wrote: “Putting my childhood cat to sleep today, and did my best to recreate a 20 year old picture. I will always love you Gandalf.”

Trevor managed to recreate the picture down to the detail of wearing the same coloured top.

Many took to the comments to send their love and condolences to Trevor.

One person wrote: “Only cats with good lives gets to live this long. Unless they get the cancer or the sort of.

“Point is you made it worth it. And he shall wait at the white shores for his friend.”

Another said: “Heartbroken for you. People who don’t have cats think they are selfish and aloof creatures, those of us who do, realise their love and trust is hard-won, and absolute when they give it.”

A third wrote: “I’m sorry, it’s hard to say goodbye to family. He looks tired and happy in your arms. I hope you two had a good time together, and may you reunite in the after life.”

And someone else simply commented with a touching quote from Winnie the Pooh: “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Replying to another comment, Trevor explained that Gandalf had come with a brother that they named Mordor.

He continued: “We bought them together from a bordering state – idk why my parents decided 9 year old me needed a purebred rag-doll haha, but that’s what he is.

“Mordor tragically got cancer at only 3 years old and had to be put to sleep. Gannie has lived enough for them both now.”
