Donald Trump reminded of old tweet as Melania refuses to wear headscarf in Saudi Arabia

Donald Trump has arrived in Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip as US President.

First Lady, Melania, was alongside her husband as King Salman greeted the pair at the Royal Terminal of King Khalid International Airport in the country’s capital, Riyad.

Following other high profile Western female visitors to the country, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Theresa May, Melania has opted not to cover her hair with a headscarf for the visit.

With images emerging of the Trumps arriving in Riyad, many have been quick to point out a tweet sent by the President about Michelle Obama in 2015.

The former First Lady also chose not to wear a headscarf during a visit to the country, something which she was praised for by many at the time. However, Trump used his Twitter account to criticise the decision in January of 2015.

The tweet has been pointed out by many in the time since the Trumps touched down in in the country.

Saudi Arabia is known to have strict practises when it comes to women in public spaces. As well as covering their hair, they are also expected to wear full-length robes. Women are also not permitted to drive in the country.
