Deadpool 3 confirms release date of film with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine

Good news, finally

Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds has confirmed Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in the MCU.

The actor shared a hilarious video on social media to explain why Deadpool was absent from Marvel Studios’ panel at D23 Expo a few weeks back in spite of development on the project being previously announced.

Thank God he did. It had us all wondering.

In the clip, Ryan jokes that he has “nothing” lined up for the movie. Then, Hugh Jackman briefly walks through the background and agrees to play Wolverine “one more time” for Deadpool 3, now confirmed to release on September 6, 2024.

Ryan gives us a cheeky grin, as Whitney Houston’s rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ begins playing, only it’s now been changed to ‘I Will Always Love Hugh’.

Then a Marvel Studios logo is above the closing Deadpool graphic when it’s slashed by Wolverine’s famous claws. The tweet has now been liked by over one million Twitter users.

This comes after Chris Hemsworth said that he wants to be in Deadpool 3 and, it would seem, simply to annoy Hugh

Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s in June, the Australian actor joked he would be willing to appear as Thor in the third Deadpool movie which was  currently being written at at the time.

Discussing the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder and his legacy in the MCU, BBC’s Ali Plumb noted how Jackman currently holds the record for the longest-serving Marvel character at 16 years, before retiring in 2017.

Jackman has played Wolverine since 2000’s X-Men, including in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie that introduced Reynolds as Deadpool. There had been reports of Marvel recasting Wolverine for the MCU now that it owns the rights to the character again but, at least for now, that’s not the case.

Marvel previously brought in Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin for Deadpool 3, with Reynolds’s Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy set to to join as well.

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+. Deadpool 3 is out on September 6, 2024.
