Tyson Fury loses £100,000 bet despite brother Tommy beating Jake Paul

Tyson was sure his brother would ‘absolutely deck’ Jake Paul

Tyson Fury lost his £100,000 bet after his brother Tommy beat Jake Paul on Sunday night but failed to stop him in the eight-round fight.

Tommy defeated his long-time rival at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, in a split decision, and after being knocked down by his opponent in the final round, extending his unbeaten record to nine from nine.

Jake, 26, had increased the stakes ahead of the fight with an all-or-nothing bet. The ‘Problem Child’ made an offer which would see Tommy, 23, walk away with double his agreed purse if he wins, but nothing if he loses.

Prior to the bout, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson, revealed he bet £100,000 on his sibling stopping Jake inside the distance.

There was significant pressure on Tommy who was looking to pick up a win over his bitter rival and prove his worth as a contender to become world champion. A loss wouldn’t have ended his career, but it would have made it stagnant considerably.

Tyson had already shaken on a bet with Jake when the pair were set to meet last August but Tommy was forced to withdraw after being banned from travelling to the US.

The initial value of the wager had been placed by the pair at $1million, but it expired after the fight collapsed.

Having an undefeated record of his own, Fury had predicted his brother would have win prior to the fight and pointed out his hard work in training. “Tommy knocks out 90 per cent of people that he spars with or drops them at least, so he’s a very hard puncher and Jake Paul will find that out tomorrow,” Tyson told iFL TV.

“I’ve got 100 racks on it for an inside the distance stoppage, so if he loses, then I’ll lose 100 bags as well. I’ve got him at 3-1. I know Tommy is going to knock him out. What is a little bit stupid is I see all these experts and professional boxers picking Jake Paul over Tommy. I’m like, ‘What the hell are these guys watching?’.

“Because Tommy will absolutely deck him. I think Tommy can get him out of there whenever really. It’ll definitely be inside the distance and it won’t be a points job for sure. Tommy wins by knockout. I can smell the fear and he [Jake] is rattling. He is rattling like a little b**** and he is going to get knocked out.”

One judge scored the fight 75-74 to Jake and the other two scored it 76-73 to Tommy.

Both fighters have said they are open to a rematch.
