Tyson Fury has predicted his younger brother will beat
Jake Paul when the two step in the ring Sunday, and how "lightning" can strike twice in the same family.
“Here he is today on the brink of making millions of dollars, even double millions if he wins - when he wins," Tyson said on Friday of
Tommy Fury.
After two-cancelled bouts and months of back and fourth, 23-year-old Tommy will face one of the most talked-about boxers in the game, YouTuber-turned fighter, Jake Paul, at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
Fury is eight from eight and last beat Daniel Bocianski on points on the undercard of Tyson's heavyweight title defence against Dillian Whyte in April, while Jake, 26, is six from six. His last win was in October 2022 against Anderson Silva.
The pair, who will fight at a catchweight of 185 pounds over eight rounds, have developed a bitter rivalry ever since both left their previous realms of social media and telly stardom to pursue boxing. While the loss would end Jake's winning streak and his quest for credibility, a loss is likely to have a greater impact on Fury, not least because of his family name.
Caesars Sportsbook lists Paul as the -170 favourite (risk $170 to win $100), while Fury is the +145 underdog in the latest Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury odds, according to a report by
CBS Boxing.
Speaking ahead of the fight on Friday, Fury said both men were in "great shape" and joked he could learn a bit from their dieting: "Whatever they’ve been eating I want some, cause I’m not in great shape, I’m fat as fuck."
Asked if he was proud of his little brother, Tyson recalled: “I remember Tommy telling me when he was 11 years old, he wanted to be a boxer, he wanted to be high profile. He said to me it’s probably unlikely because lightning doesn’t strike twice in one family. I told him it does.”
Meanwhile, former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson has put his money on Jake.
'Iron' Mike conceded he hadn't seen much of Tommy in the ring, but, regardless thinks Jake will be victorious and the fight will end inside the rounds.
He told
Boxing Social: “I’ve never seen Fury fight, I don’t think he’ll be able to beat Jake Paul. Jake paul is getting better and better as he fights and I don’t know if they brought him over here to lose – we’re going to find out. Somebody is getting knocked out, somebody is going down. Someone’s 0 has got to go.”
At a press conference on Thursday, the fighters shook hands on a game changing all-or-nothing bet.
The 'Problem Child’ made an offer which would see Tommy walk away with
double his agreed purse if he wins, but absolutely nothing if he loses.
Fury's father and lifelong trainer, John Fury, agreed on his son's behalf, saying: “You've dealt, you've got a deal. All or nothing, deal, you've got it. If Jake Paul beats him then Tommy doesn’t deserve paying.”
Last week it was revealed that Tommy had
sent several opponents to hospital, broken one boxer's jaw and knocked out heavyweights ahead of his bout with Jake.
