Great football clubs are built on tradition.
One of Manchester United’s oldest traditions is the colour scheme of their home kits. Red shirt, white shorts, black socks. The combination is instantly recognisable as Manchester United’s colours.
Rumours have emerged that next season adidas could break this tradition, after kit expert @hendocfc claimed that next season’s strip will feature “lot’s of black”, even more than the infamous 2009/10 strip which featured a black chevron on the front.

It was suggested that United could line up next season wearing black shorts at home, which would provoke a mixed reaction from fans.

It has also been reported that the rumoured change could be “inspired by the railway men who formed the club.” Originally formed in 1878 under the name ‘Newton Heath LYR Football Club’, its founders were the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath. Most trains in this era were red and black, so there is some inspiration behind the idea.
But if the rumours prove to be true, it doesn’t sound like the new innovation would go down well among the fans, regardless of the idea behind .
