Next season’s Man United home kit rumoured to be a big break from tradition

Great football clubs are built on tradition.

One of Manchester United's oldest traditions is the colour scheme of their home kits. Red shirt, white shorts, black socks. The combination is instantly recognisable as Manchester United's colours. Originally formed in 1878 under the name 'Newton Heath LYR Football Club', its founders were the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath. Most trains in this era were red and black, so there is some inspiration behind the idea.
