A family have claimed that their loved one was accidentally buried alive after being declared dead.

Rosanegela Almeida’s family believe she may have been concious and alive in her coffin for up to 11 days before eventually dying.

The 37-year-old was initially declared dead after fighting septic shock and two heart attacks. However her family now believe that she was buried alive and was awake and alert in her coffin for the best part of two weeks.

Almeida was buried in Riachao das Nevas in northern brazil and visitors to the cemetery reported hearing banging and groaning from inside Almeida’s grave.

One person said: “When I got there right in front of the tomb, I heard banging from inside it. I thought the kids who play around the cemetery were playing a joke on me. Then I heard her groan twice, and after those two groans she stopped.”

The coffin was reportedly exhumed and examined, upon which her loved ones say there was evidence of injury to her wrists and forehead and blood inside the coffin.

Germana de Almeida said that the nails on the roof of the coffin were loose due to Almeida had been banging so hard.

The body was also apparently warm when they examined it.

Police, however, have claimed that the reports could be rumours.
