Matt Hancock has resigned as secretary of state for health after photographs and video footage of him kissing his aide, and thus breaking Covid-19 restrictions, were published by the Sun this week.
Hancock posted a video statement to Twitter, explaining his decision.
"I've been to see the prime minister to resign as secretary of state for health and social care," he said.
"I understand the enormous sacrifices that everybody in this country has made, that you have made.
"Those of us who make these rules have got to stick by them, and that's why I've got tot resign.

The news of his resignation will come as a shock to many, given just how much rule breaking of various kinds members of this Conservative government have got away with over the past few years.

"I want to reiterate my apology for breaking the guidance, and apologise to my family and loved ones for putting them through this. I also need to be with my children at this time," he wrote.
