‘Thank you Queen, I love you baby’

People across the world have been sharing tributes and stories of how their lives were affected by the Queen following the sad news of her passing on Thursday.

Her Majesty touched the lives of many during her reign – including, it turns out, Snoop Dogg.

The rapper shared a clip on Instagram of him in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid earlier this year, explaining how the monarch came to his defence on one occasion.

Snoop Dogg, 50, was on tour in 1994 while facing first and second-degree murder charges related to the fatal shooting of gang member Philip Woldermariam.

This led one tabloid to run a headline reading “Kick This Evil B***ard Out.”

Discussing the headline, Snoop said: “That s**t is documented. They had a picture of me on the front, I had a handcuff on one of my hands – it’s a picture I took.

“I had a handcuff on one of my hands, it was like one of them was on and the other was off. I had my hands up like this.”

But it turns out Queen Elizabeth II publicly defended him, saying he had done nothing wrong in the UK.

The rapper continued: “But guess who came to my defence?”

After Whoo Kidd incorrectly guessed the ‘Prime Minister’, Snoop replied: “The Queen, n***a. The queen said, ‘This man has done nothing in our country. He can come.’

“The queen, ni**a, bow down. When the queen speak, bow down.

“That’s Harry and William’s grandmother, ya dig? You think they weren’t there, saying, ‘Grandma, please let him in, Grandma. He’s OK. We love his music.’

“‘You know Harry, I’ll let him in for you. He’s not so bad after all and he’s quite cute.’ Yeah, let me in!’.

“Ya dig? Thank you Queen, I love you baby. The Queen, that’s my gal.”

In a 2015 interview with the Guardian, Snoop also credited Prince William and Harry for helping the Queen make her decision to defend the rapper despite the allegations against him.

“Those grandbabies grew up to be Prince William and Harry, so I had influence on them, and they had influence on their grandmother, which enabled me to get into this beautiful country,” Snoop said.

“They love my music, and it is what it is. There’s a mutual love and respect.”
