Cruz starred alongside Depp in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film
A quote from Penélope Cruz in which she describes Johnny Depp as “one of the most generous people I know” has gone viral online.
Depp is currently involved in a bitter and prolonged legal battle with his former wife Amber Heard over a 2018 op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post.
Depp’s team argue that the piece falsely implies that Heard was physically and sexually abused by Depp while they were married from 2015 to 2017.
Now, a quote from Cruz, who starred alongside Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has resurfaced online.
In March 2020, she said of her co-star: “I’ve seen Johnny in so many situations and he is always kind to everyone around. He is one of the most generous people I know.
“During the first six months of my first pregnancy, I spent every single day with him while we shot ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘.
“My husband and I will never forget the sweetness, protection, and kindness he treated me with during every single step of that process.”

Other celebs to have shown their support for Depp include Paul McCartney and American comic Bill Burr, who went as far as to say that the actor is owed public apologies if the trial rules in his favour.
Heard has made a number of shocking allegations against Depp, including that he once performed a ‘cavity search’ on her whilst looking for cocaine and that he once sexually assaulted her with a bottle.
The trial has also been read out texts from Depp to friends in which he fantasises about burning and drowning Heard, having sex with her corpse, and putting her ‘rotting’ body in the boot of a car.
Depp is seeking $50m in damages from his ex-wife for defamation.
Heard is in turn suing her former husband, accusing him of orchestrating a “smear campaign” against her and labelling his lawsuit as a continuation of “abuse and harassment.”
She has asked for immunity from Depp’s complaint and $100m in damages.
