Mariah Carey thaws from giant ice block in annual pre-Christmas money-grab

Mariah is said to have banked more than $60 million for her famous Christmas song

Mariah Carey has been thawed out of a giant ice block in what has become known to some as the official signal that the most wonderful time of the year is now officially upon us.

Continuing her annual November 1 tradition the singer, 54, began the Christmas countdown – there’s 53 days to go – by emerging from an ice block to dance with a small crowd of people who were also very, very excited that Santa Claus will soon be on his way.

In a video on her Instagram, that’s got over two million likes, Carey is seen being defrosted by a group of people in Halloween attire, including a pumpkin head and a mask from the movie Scream, using hairdryers after a vault opens after showing the date ticking over from October 31 at 11.59pm into November 1.

Mariah, dressed in a Mrs Claus-style jumpsuit despite being contained within a block of ice, then belts out, “It’s time” in a high-pitched voice.

Her Christmas classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” then starts playing as she frolics in the falling snow and is joined by her 12-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

The pair were also dressed for the holiday season with festive lights around their necks.

According to the New York Post, Mariah banks about $3 million, £2.4m a year from the song which was released in 1994. In December 2019, The Economist said the song had earned Mariah over $60 million (£45 million) in total at that point in time.

Mariah, who is nicknamed the ‘Queen of Christmas’, captioned the video “It’s…. TIME!”

The pop superstar kicked off “MariahSZN” last year by sharing a video of herself morphing from a cackling witch riding an exercise bike into festive Mariah dressed in a one-piece Santa suit riding a reindeer, People noted.

Days before Mariah’s post, the Kardashian ‘Momager”, Kris Jenner, said on Instagram, that she was trying to “convince” her friend Carey that it was “time” for her annual Christmas return as they caught up over dinner.

The post, which was shared on Saturday, also featured Carey’s viral video from November 1 2022.

Carey’s holiday hit, which was released in 1994, is the best-selling Christmas song of all time.

In 2019, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached No. 1 during its 25th anniversary year, while last year the track earned the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs list, People noted.
