The Gunners are one step closer to the title

Arsenal’s win against Spurs meant that Mikel Arteta completed a feat that not even Arsene Wenger did during his time at the club.

The Gunners produced another statement victory as they won 3-2 to remain top of the league by a point – however Manchester City do have a game in hand.

An own goal from Pierre-Emile Hojberg started off the proceedings before goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz had the away side in control.

Spurs did fight back in the second half and found a way back into the game following David Raya’s awful clearance, which found the feet of Cristian Romero. The Argentine showed the sort of composure you’d see from a 20-goal-a-season striker to make it 1-3.

Son Heung-min made the game even more interesting as he converted a penalty kick but the hosts were unable to find a late equaliser.

Arteta claims new Arsenal record

After claiming bragging rights in the north London derby, Arteta can also claim another victory in terms of personal accolades.

According to Squawka, Arsenal managed to secure back-to-back away wins in the derby for the first time in 36 years.

George Graham was in charge of the Gunners at the time, meaning Arteta has completed an achievement that not even Wenger did.

Despite extending their lead at the top of the table, the league is still ultimately out of their hands given Man City’s game in hand.

They may even have to rely on their arch rivals doing them a favour as Pep Guardiola’s side’s game in hand is in fact against Spurs.
