Romero swiftly deleted the tweet

Cristian Romero was perhaps scared to face punishment as he swiftly deleted a tweet he posted shortly after Spurs’ derby day defeat to Arsenal.

The Gunners produced another statement victory as they won 3-2 to remain top of the league by a point.

An own goal from Pierre-Emile Hojberg started off the proceedings before goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz had the away side in control.

Spurs did fight back in the second half and found a way back into the game following David Raya’s awful clearance, which found the feet of Romero. The Argentine showed the sort of composure you’d see from a 20-goal-a-season striker to make it 1-3.

Son Heung-min made the game even more interesting as he converted a penalty kick but the hosts were unable to find a late equaliser.

Earlier in the game, Spurs thought they had equalised when Micky Van de Ven thundered the ball past Raya only for it to be ruled out due to offside.

Angered by the decision, Romero posted on X after the game that West Ham had a similar goal stand during their 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this season.

On that occasion, a shot deflected off Romero and another Tottenham defender on that occasion, allowing Jarred Bowen to fire home.

He replied to a post saying: “West Ham scored the same goal against us at home,” before quickly deleting the tweet after probably realising that he was the player keeping Bowen onside.

Ange Postecoglou’s side now face a real tall order in terms of finishing inside the top four as they remain seven points behind Aston Villa however they do have two games in hand which are against Chelsea and Manchester City.

They also still have to play Liverpool and even if they don’t finish in the Champions League spots, could have a huge say in the title race should they beat the Reds and Man City.
