Roy Keane slams two Liverpool stars for ‘sloppy’ display in Man United defeat

Liverpool fell to defeat against Manchester United

Roy Keane blasted Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold for their performances as Liverpool were beaten by Manchester United on Monday night.

Van Dijk was one of those at fault for the first goal of the night as Jadon Sancho found too much time and space before shifting the ball away from James Milner and rolling home into an empty net.

The Liverpool captain and experienced midfielder Milner had a heated exchange after the goal – the first of several between the pair throughout the night.

Liverpool’s night went from bad to worse in the second half as Marcus Rashford timed his run to perfection as he latched onto Anthony Martial’s through ball before firing past Alisson in the second half.

Mohamed Salah pulled one back with less than 10 minutes to go but it wasn’t enough as United held on to secure the first three points of the Erik ten Hag era.

While Keane had lots of praise for his former side at half time, the fiery pundit singled out Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold – usually reliable performers – for their display at Old Trafford.

“If you analyse Van Dijk here, he’s been sloppy all season,” Keane claimed on Sky Sports. “He’s got to get out. He’s not moved his feet. It was excellent, the goal was coming. You thought every time United were coming [they would score].

“Rashford was making runs, stretching Liverpool and there was gaps everywhere. They made Liverpool look average. Sancho, for a player who’s not been playing well, showed great composure. Great finish and Liverpool will be disappointed. Trent again on his heels.”

The win means the Red Devils now move above Liverpool in the table and put even more pressure on Jurgen Klopp’s men as they fall further behind fellow title competitors, Manchester City.
