Ajax midfielder Dušan Tadić was reportedly attacked outside his home by two armed robbers last month according to Dutch and Serbian media outlets.

De Telegraaf claimed that Tadić was attacked after returning home at midnight on July 28. The ex-Southampton player allegedly knew something was wrong after he was approached by two armed men wearing helmets after getting out of his car.

The Serbian international tried to flee but was involved in a physical confrontation with one of the armed men, leaving him with minor injuries to his hand and torn clothes.

Serbian news outlet Espreso said that the 33-year-old was then able to escape to a nearby restaurant while his attackers managed to escape on scooters.

It was reported that the two men had been at Tadić’s house just days before the robbery, pretending to be pizza deliverymen; Tadić wasn’t home on that occasion but his wife was left suspicious by the call.

Tadić was spotted wearing plasters in Ajax’s 5-3 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Johan Cruyff Shield on July 30 – just days after the attack took place.

Last year, PSV striker Eran Zahavi’s wife and three children were tied and gagged-up after their family home was broken into.

Zahavi was forced to leave PSV’s game against Willem as he returned home to look after his family. The criminals left with personal items and money too.

The forward posted an emotional statement thanking people for their support. “I want to thank everyone for the support and pain they show towards my wife and children.

“It is important for us to make it clear that we appreciate this very much and feel very loved in the Netherlands.”

Steven Bergwijn and Siem de Jong have also been a number of top-flight players targeted by burglars in the Netherlands in recent years. Footballers are no strangers to being targeted, with Serie A players suffering numerous attempts throughout 2021, in particular.
