‘I cannot even put into words how grateful I am for my recovery’
Steve-O shared two incredible before-and-after photos to celebrate his 16 years of sobriety.
The 49-year-old made his name on the hit stunt show and comedy series alongside the likes of Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Chris Pontius.
Originally airing on MTV between 2000 and 2002, Jackass featured the show’s cast performing a range of dangerous, gruesome and sometimes even death-defying stunts and pranks.
The show went on to spawn a number of feature-length movies and turned the Jackass team into global superstars.
But as Jackass became the phenomenon that it is, Steve-O’s career was blighted by alcohol and drug addiction. Things got so bad that his Jackass co-star Johnny Knoxville eventually organised an intervention in 2008.
This proved to be a turning point for Steve-O. After completing a 12-step programme he’s not looked back and last month he celebrated 16 years of sobriety.
In a post on Instagram, the star shared two photos of himself to highlight his incredible journey of recovery.
The first one, from November 2007, shows the TV personality looking vacant behind the eyes, clearly not sober and with huge bags under his eyes.
By contrast, the second pic, taken in March 2024, shows him looking happy and healthy, with a full head of hair and a huge smile on his face.
He captioned the post: “It’s truly nuts that I’m celebrating a full sixteen years of sobriety today. It all began when @johnnyknoxville organized an intervention which saved my life on March 9, 2008.
“I cannot even put into words how grateful I am for my recovery… Thank you, Captain!!!”
This isn’t the first time Steve-O has used before-and-after pictures to highlight his incredible recovery.
Back in 2021, he recreated an infamous photo of himself from 15 years earlier to show how he’s replaced the booze, drugs and cigarettes with a far healthier lifestyle.
