Worcestershire County Cricket Club star Josh Baker has died aged 20.
The club confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday and said they were "heartbroken to announce the untimely passing".
Baker turned professional with the county in 2021 and had become a popular member of the squad because of his talent on the field but his "infectious enthusiasm" around the team.
Ashley Giles, Worcestershire’s Chief Executive Officer, shared his profound sadness, stating, “The news of Josh’s passing has left us all devastated.
“Josh was much more than a teammate; he was an integral part of our cricket family.
“We will all miss him terribly. All our love and prayers go out to Josh’s family and friends.”
They added that they would pay tribute to the 20-year-old in due course but for now requested that the family requested privacy at this difficult time.
