‘He was just trying to protect his daughter’
A father who allegedly asked a man not to vape near his daughter was fatally stabbed to death.
Paul Stanley Schmidt, 37, was at a Starbucks in Vancouver, Canada with his daughter and fiancé where he became concerned with his daughter inhaling the fumes from the man vaping near to them.
The Vancouver Sun have reported that Schmidt went and spoke to Inderdeep Singh Gosal to politely ask him to stop vaping.
Instead, the 32-year-old reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the father on March 26.
A brief police statement reported that the two – who didn’t know each other – in question ended their altercation once Schmidt had been stabbed.
The wife of Paul, Kathy, said: “This is so horribly wrong what happened. He was just trying to protect his daughter. I’m angry and I’m sad.”
Reports have suggested that Gosal has been charged with second-degree murder however Kathy believes it should be upgraded to first-degree.
In order for that to happen though, evidence that the 32-year-old’s attack was premeditated would have to be submitted.
“He had a knife,” she added. “I don’t carry a knife into a coffee shop, do you?
“It all started because he was vaping beside the baby. Ashley’s in shock, she watched the whole thing. She’s so devastated.”
Paul’s wife has set up a GoFundMe page has been created to help support the family of the 37-year-old who was reportedly the only earner in the household.
