Classic PlayStation 2 games are finally making their way to PlayStation 5

Gamers have wanted this for a long time.

Playstation have announced a much-desired perk for premium subscribers on their network.

If you’re lucky enough to be a Playstation Plus Premium user, you can now indulge in nostalgia by playing a number of retro Playstation 2 classics.

While the golden oldies category is looking pretty limited at the moment, Playstation have announced that they are working on bringing a list of fan-favourite PS2 titles to the network.

If you have fond memories of scaring yourself playing any of the Silent Hill‘s or GTA San Andreas, you may be able to relive those memories again very soon.

The announcement has led to a lengthy thread of suggestions from gamers on Reddit.

One user suggested Simpsons Hit & Run, which received a lot of votes but many were quick to point out that licensing complications would make it very difficult for the gaming network to bring it back.

Another very popular shout was The Getaway which, if you haven’t played it, was kind of like Grand Theft Auto if it was set in central London.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was another one that garnered a lot of love. That one was like an earlier incarnation of the Assassins Creed franchise.

Two other recurring titles were Ratchet and Clank and the Tony Hawk Pro Skater.

Implicit Conversions is the company behind the remastering of old PS1 and PSP classics, and they state the following on their website regarding bringing back Playstation 2 titles:

“Right now, we’re working on bringing games from the original PS1, PSP, and PS2 to the PS4 and PS5.”

They go on to add, “Among our clients, we are working with Sony Interactive Entertainment / PlayStation to bring PS1, PS2, and PSP games to the PS4 and PS5. Some of our partners and publishers include Disney Interactive, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Team17, and Bend Studio.”

Just yesterday, Playstation revealed a list of titles that will be added to the catalog from next week.

In the classic category, you can look forward to playing Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Cool Boarders, God’s Eater Burst, the Ace Attorney Trilogy and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Earlier this month, subscribers to the Playstation Plus Premium service complained that the company weren’t releasing enough PS1 classics to justify the hefty subscriber fee.

Many would hope the network will listen to some of the fan’s title requests in the coming months. After all, who doesn’t want to test their bravery by having another go at the eery mannequins level in Silent Hill 2 after all these years.
