Slot will replace Jurgen Klopp

Arne Slot has agreed a deal that will see him become the new manager of Liverpool.

Slot will replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season after the German announced last November that he would be leaving the club after nine years in charge.

The Dutchman is highly thought of after his work at Feyenoord which has seen them win the Eredivisie and reach the final of the Conference League under his watch.

Slot confirmed he wanted the job

Speaking to ESPN on Thursday night ahead of his side’s game against Go Ahead Eagles, Slot confirmed that he was interested in taking the role at Anfield.

“It seems clear to me that I would like to work there,” he said.

“The clubs are negotiating, so I am still on hold. We are waiting for an agreement to be reached, but I am confident of that.

“Obviously it’s nice when a big club approaches you. It’s not the first time in the years I’ve been here at Feyenoord of course.

“At the same time there were still some very important matches coming up, including the cup final, so we focused fully on that first. We won that and then it got a bit more attention in the media. That’s just how it goes.”

Klopp endorses appointment

It seems that Klopp is also excited by the prospect of the 45-year-old replacing him and sung his praises during his press conference before the Reds’ game against West Ham on Saturday.

“What I like a lot about it is if he is the one then he wants to take the job – he’s desperate, excited, let’s go for it,” he said.

“I like the way his team play football and all the things I hear about him as a guy. Some people I know, know him, I don’t know him yet. Good coach, good guy.

“If he’s the solution for the club then I am more than happy. It’s not up to me to judge but it all sounds really good to me.”
