Madonna says the world is threatened by her ‘power and intelligence’

Madonna has hit back at haters criticising her appearance at the Grammys, suggesting the world is “threatened by my power and stamina” and saying people can expect “many more years of subversive behaviour”.

As often happens with anything the ‘Material Girl’s singer is involved in, she became the centre of attention after appearing on stage at the annual event on Sunday to introduce Sam Smith and Kim Petras before their “Unholy” performance.

Soon after, several social media users said the 64-year-old’s “face is covered in plastic surgery” and suggested that she “should focus on ageing gracefully”.

“Madonna, by changing your facial appearance to the extent that you have, you are the main perpetrator of your own ageist agenda. I’m a fan, but I need to call you out on this,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “I’m a huge fan but just stop the plastic surgeries please.”

“Girl, you’re turning into Michael Jackson. Stop,” another commenter wrote.

Writing on Twitter, Madonna hit back saying: “The world is threatened by my power and my stamina,” she wrote. “My intelligence and my will to survive, but they will never break me.

“This is all the test.”

The tweet, fans have suggested, is a continuation of her initial clap-back, in which she slammed commenters as “misogynistic” and “ageist”, something Piers Morgan was accused of earlier this month for claiming Madonna is the “most grotesque, train wreck embarrassment in the history of world entertainment”. He said the star should be “put out to pasture”.

Despite the debate continuing to bubble, Madonna has shared another sultry Instagram post showing her mixing and mingling with other stars at the ceremony.

She wrote in the caption: “Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim, many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face.”

“Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.

“A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous.

“I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start … I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.”

She added: “In the words of Beyonce: ‘You won’t break my soul’.”

The caption ended by saying: “I look forward to many more years of subversive behaviour – pushing boundaries – standing up to the patriarchy – and most of all enjoying my life. Bow down bitches!”
