McDonalds are putting a porn block on their free Wi-Fi

What's wrong with people?

Carl Anka

For years McDonalds have been providing a great public service with their free Wi-Fi.

Need to download a quick Google Map, or grab something on the go? Log on and web surf to your heart’s content while you tuck into some McNuggets. Fast web with your fast food.

But it turns out some people were taking advantage of the free public Wi-Fi in McDonald’s to search for things that really should be done in private.

Namely, pornography.

Apparently, so many people have been using McDonald’s Wi-Fi to browse blue movies that the fast food chain has had to install a content filter to block out pornography websites.

The Verge is reporting that McDonald’s is to block out adult movie websites from the majority of its locations in the US.

The move comes after a campaign from Internet safety activist group Enough is Enough that aims to provide safer public WiFi for “children and families”.

The move will see McDonald’s join other American fast food restaurants like Chick-fil-A and Panera Bread that have parental controls on their free Wi-Fi.

Enough is Enough admitted that McDonald’s “wasn’t aware of any pornography related incidents in their stores,” but Donna Rice Hughes, the group’s leader, applauded the company in The New York Post for the decision, calling it an “act of corporate responsibility and commitment to children and family safety.”
