McDonald's customers unable to order after 'system failure'

McDonald’s has experienced technical problems in its restaurants across the globe, with customers in a number of countries reporting being unable to order.

In Japan, the fast food chain confirmed it had suffered a “system failure” and asked customers to “wait for a while” for service to be restored.

McDonald’s operates around 3,000 stores in Japan and has said it is working to “resume store operations soon”.

Social media users have also complained of issues in restaurants in the UK, Australia and New Zealand on Friday morning, the BBC reports.

One person wrote: “Sooooo, for the first time in ages I’m gagging for a nice McMuffin… order online, drive to the McD’s and… you’ve got a country-wide failure?”

A second commented on X: “Why can I order through the app this morning but all of my local McDonald’s are closed when they are meant to be 24 hours?!”

A third disgruntled customer said: “I want my daily egg McMuffin and been turned away by a f****** clown. I’ve eaten here 3 times a day every day since 2007 and they can’t lend me a hash browns.”

Someone else said all the McDonald’s restaurants in Eastbourne had been closed “due to technical issues,” and questioned whether the chain had been “hit by a cyberattack.”

A McDonald’s spokesperson told JOE: “We are aware of a technology outage which impacted our restaurants. The issue has now been resolved in the UK and Ireland. We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. The issue is not related to a cybersecurity event.”
