Trump says 'leftist' US Women's football team lost Olympic gold because they're 'woke'

Trump is now a soccer expert apparently?

Former President Donald Trump refuses to sink into obscurity and is hitting the headlines once again for criticising the performance of the US women’s national soccer team.

“If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said in a statement.

He continued: “Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has. There were, however, a few Patriots standing. Unfortunately, they need more than that respecting our Country and National Anthem.”

Trump is, of course, referring to the team taking the knee in support of racial equality.

“They should replace the wokesters with Patriots and start winning again. The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job!” he added, clearly not in reach of Google to search for the name of the 'purple haired' Megan Rapinoe who has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Harpers Bazaar, Glamour, Esquire, and Marie Claire.

However, Rapinoe scored two brilliant goals during the match, so basic knowledge of the game would suggest she didn't play terribly.

Tensions between the US soccer team and the former president have been stretched for a while, arguably since Rapinoe refused to appear at the White House following their World Cup win.

"Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!" tweeted President Trump back in 2019.

Just like Piers Morgan who is as equally unqualified to criticise the performance of elite athletics, Trump has received a largely negative response online.

"Scary to think he was in charge of one of the most powerful nations in the world..." tweeted one user.

"I forgot about his way of speaking for a while so reading this now sounds like a parody. I had to remind myself that we had to read shit like that for more than four years," replied another.

Though Trump wasn't able to secure a second term in the Oval Office, perhaps he could snag a spot as a presenter for GB News? That is unless he is swamped with legal battles.
