Verratti made the comments after PSG’s defeat to Nantes

Marco Verratti could face a lengthy ban after he launched an angry attack at officials in Ligue 1 and claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are “s*** on by referees.”

The midfielder was speaking following PSG’s surprise 3-1 defeat to FC Nantes – a game where they found themselves 3-0 down before half-time.

Neymar pulled a consolation goal back two minutes into the second 45 but missed a penalty later on and after the game Verratti didn’t hold back when it came to his criticisms, most notably the decision not to send off Dennis Appiah for a foul on Kylian Mbappé.

Appiah had originally been given a straight red card for his foul on Mbappé, but after a VAR review, the card was reduced to just a yellow before committing another foul shortly after which went unpunished.

“The referee should have given Appiah the second yellow for the foul he made [on Mbappé],” he told Canal plus.

“How is it possible not to give him the yellow? We got s*** on by the referees!”

Verratti now may regret his outburst according to L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, who have reported that the midfielder could be set for a suspension – with officials at the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) set to meet on Wednesday.

The Italian will also be asked to explain his comments after the French Football Federation’s ethics counci referred his comments to the LFP.

Verratti, 29, could face a potential five-game ban as a result of rude behaviour which may be extended even further given the severity of his comments.
